18" Doll Apron

Whenever I visit family with kiddos, especially around the holidays, I try to bring along a little something handmade.  This year, it was doll aprons.  3 for a friend and one for my big girl.  Gotta love those 18-inch dolls!


The pattern is Simplicity 2465:

And who doesn't love chili peppers!

At some point I'm hoping to make my daughter an apron to match her doll....but only time will tell if that project gets finished.

Doll Carrier

Oh man, I was totally set to whip up my own pattern for an Ergo-type baby doll carrier (like this), when my daughter informed me she'd have none of that, and preferred a simple pouch sling.  Secretly bummed, I went ahead and made a quick little sling for her baby doll.  I sort-of used instructions from Jan Andrea (a great site for DIY baby slings).  Did you know that JoAnn's has Brave fabric already??  It isn't actually upside down....her sling is on backwards in these photos.
 

I guess it does look pretty comfortable...and easy to put on...

At least I got away with lining it with some white minkee.

I was thinking I should have taken in the sides a bit more, but it turns out Miss A likes using the loose fabric on the edges to cover her baby like a blanket - you know, so her baby can sleep.

Great reward for a 30 minute project!  Now I'm wondering who else needs one of these...

Tinkerbell Dress

Is it bad that I had to order another set of 10 doll hangers to hang all the stuff I'm making for Baby A?  My daughter really doesn't like to wear dress up clothes, so maybe I'm channeling my dress up wishes elsewhere.  At least she does like to dress up her doll.

I have gotten more mileage out of my 99 cent Simplicity 5705 pattern, between the Princess and the Pea dress, the Ariel dress (which I apparently haven't shown you yet), and now, Tinkerbell!

I'd say Baby A looks pretty satisfied, wouldn't you?  I used leftover fabric from making Miss A's Tinkerbell dress, which I promise to show you soon.  The dress' wings detatch, and there are a little pair of matching undies that go under the dress.

Since the doll has been wearing her Tinkerbell costume (wings and all) for three days straight...night and day...I'd say it's a hit!

Matching Robes

Another of Miss A's (and Baby A's) Christmas gifts included a matching robe set.  I snagged some fun purple (Lady A's current favorite color) flannel when JoAnn had their black friday flannel sale.  They turned out SO cute!



I used patterns for both robes:
  Simplicity 5931 for the big girl (I keep promising the hubs a robe too.  Someday.)
  Simplicity Crafts 5276 for the doll

Both patterns were pretty simple, except for the collar.  It did take me a few minutes to figure out what they were talking about there.

I love the idea of matching doll/kid things.  Miss A LOVES the doll stuff I make her.  So far she's completely uninterested in wearing anything I make for her....except her Tinkerbell Dress.  Pics on that forthcoming.

Hat and Scarf (18" doll)

A few more things for the 18" doll this Christmas.  Again, from the McCall's 3469 pattern, the hat and scarf combo...

I'm loving all that soft red fluffy fabric.  Shockingly easy to work with!

I do wish the hat was tighter, but I'm not taking out the lining just to tighten the elastic.  Lesson learned for next time -> check that before finishing the hat.  Ah well.
