Heirloom Bonnets (Part 2)

I did find the photos of my previous two bonnets!  Both were made using the same Simplicity 3840 pattern.

    I'm currently making this pattern, the back where you put the cinched ribbon can you explain that to me. I'm reading the directions but it's not making sense.
